We're going to be looking at this verse, word by word, for the next few weeks. Nicodemus, the Pharisee has asked Jesus to reveal the source of His power. Jesus tells him that he must have eyes that are born of the kingdom of God to see. But these eyes can only be given as a gift from God.
Just prior to this verse, Jesus mentions that just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert (saving all those bitten who looked at it), so must He be lifted up on a cross for all to see. The word "FOR" could also be translated "SINCE".
God loves us and since He loves us, He sent Jesus to die. Just like God had Moses lift the snake as an act of love for His people, Jesus himself would be lifted as a wonderful act of love. "SINCE", God loves us, what is our reaction to this today? Gratitude? Service? Humility? Obedience?
ThoughtPrayer: "Lord, today I come before you with ________________."
