QUIETED

My heart is not proud, O LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. - Psalm 131:1-2

Remember the scene from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, when the Whos were making what the Grinch called "Noise! Noise! Noise!"? All too often we get trapped by the noise around us. It goes beyond simply what we hear and includes anything that pulls us off of our focus on Christ. It can be TV, email, internet, twitter, facebook, music, etc. If we take the time to ask God what is distracting us, He'll let us know. Usually, we already know.

Today, think about what might be cluttering your mind and your heart. Consider fasting from, cutting back or even eliminating those things that are causing more noise - making it more difficult to hear from God.
